For an agonising instant no one knew who had won the women's 100m difficulties. On the other side of the world, large numbers of Australians leaned forward on the advantage of their seats, waiting for the results to display up on the screen. And at last they came: first, and the gold, to Sally Pearson, in an Olympic 2012 record of 12.35sec. It was only Australia's 4th gold of the Games. Pearson hit bottom to the track, pleased. USA's Dawn Harper, the deposed champion, had the good favor to clap her hands in admiration of her rival.
